What to Look for When Shopping the Best Robot Vacuum for Hardwood Floors

The Internet offers several tips in choosing robot vacuums from the market. One tip you should follow is to start surveying your house. Consider the cleaning environment of your chosen robot vacuum cleaner if it can encounter problems like obstructions or carpets with tall fibers.

Aside from that tip, you should also consider looking at certain factors when searching for the best robot vacuum for hardwood floorings. Let's take a look at these elements to consider in greater detail.

Reason for Use

If you're asking yourself, "What is the best robot vacuum for hardwood floors," the first step to arriving at an answer is to look inside yourself. Think about the main reason why you're going to buy the device in the first place. Robot vacuums help keep surfaces as clean as possible. Choose a model that offers you the features you need to help you save time and effort in cleaning your home.

The Size of the House

When you're searching for a vacuum for hardwood floors, consider the size of your house. Take a look at the dimensions of your home. There are certain robot vacuums on the market that work best in cleaning small environments. On the other hand, specific models won't mind cleaning multiple rooms in a home.

Make sure to read the reviews and product descriptions of each model before you purchase. In doing so, you can save yourself in having to deal with certain complications after the transaction.

Cleaning Surfaces

Having hardwood floors vacuums doesn't mean these devices can only clean hardwood floors and nothing else. Certain robot vacuums on the market can clean more than just hardwood floorings. Specific models can even do a good job in removing pet hair, dust, dirt, and small debris from thin carpets. It's imperative that you research the models you choose before you make any purchase.

Wi-Fi Connectivity

The modern market is generous to the robot vacuum cleaner sector. Manufacturers are now implementing several wireless control features for numerous robot vacuum models for your convenience. Check out the market, and you can even find a few units that allow you to control them with a mobile app, Amazon Alexa, or Google Assistant.

If it doesn't have Wi-Fi capabilities, you shouldn't worry too much as the robot vacuum would most probably have a capable remote in its standard packaging. Specific models might even have onboard controls located on the machine itself.

Robot vacuum Reviews

Unless you like scrubbing and dusting, cleaning the house is difficult to enjoy for many folks until the eufy Boost IQ RoboVac 11S came into the scene. This robot vacuum presents ease in different aspects. The 4.5-star rating on its Amazon page cements the idea of its usefulness. This rating makes this model the best robot vacuum for hardwood floors.

First, there's its initial setup which cannot get any easier when compared to other similar robot vacuums on the market. All you need to do is equip this vacuum cleaner with its brushes and it's ready to go. It's even smart enough to find its way back to its charging dock whenever it's running low on battery life.

Perhaps one of the main concerns when using the eufy RoboVac 11S is its use. Don't get the previous statement wrong as this model is a charm to use. However, the device is akin to a child trying to learn how to walk. This robot vacuum needs a wide open space to get home.

If this device sees multiple obstructions on its path to go back to its charging dock, it'll beep which means it needs help (aka human intervention).

Moving from its initial setup, you'll see additional accessories in its standard packaging which is always a nice touch. It comes with backup brushes, a cleaning tool (for the device), a remote control, the charging base, and extra filters. Also, this particular robot vacuum doesn't use an app which saddened us, but only slightly at best.

Despite the lack of a mobile app, incorporating commands to the eufy 11S is easy thanks to its remote control. Also, you might not even use the control as all you need is to push the button on its back to make it run. The onboard system is smart enough to know where to go and when to return to its charging base.

Last, and definitely not the least, its cleaning ability is great even though it doesn't keep a record of its previous path. Hence, it may go around the same area several times even if it already cleaned a spot before. It might sound like a caveat, but it also means that this device ensures the entire floor area is clean.

Things We Liked

  • Cleans areas several times
  • Decent battery life
  • Moves around obstructions instead of turning back

Things We Didn't Like

  • It doesn't have an app, but the box includes a remote

In summary, the ECOVACS DEEBOT N79S looks good and works well. It's also easy to set up, and you don't have to use a remote to control its function because you can direct it with the use of Alexa. It might not be the best robot vacuum on the modern market, but it’s the best value for money on our books thanks to its list of features. It even has a 4-star rating on its Amazon page.

On the design front, most of the DEEBOT N79S’ external appearance won’t knock your socks off. It’s a case of, “you’ve seen one, and you’ve seen them all.” In other words, it follows the basic trends of modern but sleek looks for robot vacuums.

Despite the lack of its originality regarding its appearance, you’ll find an array of sensors on its front. There are also guards protecting the unit from the usual bumps and nicks it may receive while attempting to clean the area.

Look at the bottom of the device, and you’ll see where the two side brushes connect. These components help this robot vacuum cleaner brush the dust and dirt for the unit to suck it all up. It’s best to use this robot vacuum on hardwood floors instead of carpeted floorings, especially for carpets with long fibers.

The side brushes may get bent out of shape quickly if you continuously let the vacuum cleaner work on long fibers. If you let it clean on hardwood or other relatively flat surfaces, then you’ll get an above average cleaning performance at best.

This unit also comes with an app unlike other robot vacuums on the market. The setup and connection process of the app is doable in a few minutes. We didn't even break a sweat in trying to work this device from scratch.

Aside from the app, you can also control the N79S with the accompanying remote. Still, you might want to leave this accessory in the box because you’re going to most likely use the app or voice commands for its controls.

4.3/5

Things We Liked

  • Easy to set up
  • The app works like a charm
  • Works with Alexa

Things We Didn't Like

  • Its design is nothing special, but it still promotes a functional set of features

The eufy RoboVac 11 might lack the amenities and performance found in higher-end devices, but it’s still a good choice for cleaning up dirt, dust, and messes on your hardwood floors. Its performance is also great for cleaning thin carpets. Hence, you might even find this model to be the best robot vacuum for hardwood floors and carpet.

When looking at the RoboVac 11's design, it holds a "tried and true" appearance. Its functional approach to its appearance helps it carefully stop and move around obstructions for safe cleaning operations. Its traditional circular vacuum shape also has tempered glass on top for added durability.

At 3.1 inches tall and 13 inches in diameter, the Eufy RoboVac 11 joins many highly compact robot vacuums on the market. It’s one of the smallest and shortest robot vacuums out there. Its size makes it an ideal choice for cleaning small apartments or other tiny spaces.

At the bottom of the device, you’ll find 11 infrared sensors (which might indicate the number in its name). There’s also a swivel wheel, two side brushes, a drop sensor, and a central rolling brush. This central component picks up most of the dust, dirt, and debris while untangling short fibers.

As for its performance, the RoboVac 11 is best used once per day for long cleaning sessions as opposed to using the device for multiple bursts. It requires more time to charge in comparison with other robot vacuums on the market. While other models can fully charge in about 1 hour and 30 minutes, eufy’s unit will take around 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Since the RoboVac 11 has several onboard brushes, static can build upon its chassis. This static buildup might attract pet hair in which the robot vacuum won't suck this particular debris. The pet hair may end up building upon its chassis which may cause complications.

With that in mind, pet owners might want to look at other robot vacuum models. If you’re not a pet owner and want a reliable robot vacuum with a small profile, then this device might be a good choice for you.

4.3/5

Things We Liked

  • Long cleaning time to pick up more dust, dirt, debris, and grime
  • Easy to use controls
  • Low profile design
  • Large dustbin

Things We Didn't Like

  • Pet hair may statically attract to its chassis. It may not be an ideal choice for pet owners, but it’s still a good choice for everyone else.

The iRobot Roomba 690 separates itself from the crowd because of the use of a technology known as “Dirt Detect.” Its sensors detect dust and dirt in a relatively large area, and the device will try to go over specific locations multiple times to assure all corners are clean. Cleaning performance is excellent, and its 4.1-star rating on Amazon cements that thought.

A 300-square foot area will take roughly an hour to become completely clean with the help of the Roomba 690. It will take several passes over numerous areas until it decides that the spot no longer needs cleaning.

The robot vacuum even notified our paired devices with its accompanying app if it finds any Dirt Detect events. If you don’t want to be constantly pestered by these notifications, you can always turn it off from the app or your mobile device.

When it comes to setting up the Roomba 690 for the first time, it won’t take more than a few minutes of your precious time. Just plug the charging station in a compatible power outlet, plop the robot down to the dock, and let the device fully charge before it can do its “magic.” Running time for this particular robot vacuum is 1 and ½ hours which is decent enough for most cleaning tasks.

This unit is also Google Home and Alexa compatible. You can communicate with this robot vacuum with the help of the accompanying mobile application. In the app, you’ll see the battery status, time spent cleanings, and scheduled operations (among other pieces of information).

One of the main advantages of using the Roomba 690 is its quiet motor. You’ll find that it’s one of the quietest robot vacuums out there. You can even schedule the device to clean in the middle of the night, and it won’t wake up the entire household.

4.1/5

Things We Liked

  • Decent battery life
  • Dirt Detect Technology works well to detect dust and dirt on flat surfaces
  • Quiet cleaning operations
  • It doesn’t get stuck on several surfaces, including carpets

Things We Didn't Like

  • It may get lost in trying to return to its charging dock which may require human intervention.

Let's start the review of the iLife A4s with its design. When it comes to its appearance, this robot vacuum cleaner doesn't present anything new in this department. It has a circular shape with a bumper attached to its front element. This bumper allows the other components to stay safe and pristine if the vacuum may bump into walls and other obstructions in its path.

Its overall appearance screams functional instead of fashion. Look down the device and you'll see the filter and dust bin. You can also find the power switch on its exterior. All of these outer controls and features don't protrude to get in the way of the vacuum's cleaning jobs. Its several positive reviews on Amazon even rewarded this device with a 4.1-star rating.

As for its performance, the A4s offers different cleaning styles, and these are Edge, Spot, Mini-room, Scheduled, and Auto cleaning modes. Each mode presents a distinct offering for most cleaning applications. For example, use the Edge cleaning mode to allow the device to move around areas while focusing on the edges of rooms.

Spot cleaning, on the other hand, will make the vacuum clean a small area of a room. The mini-room cleaning mode allows the vacuum cleaner to recognize an enclosed space (e.g., a closed room), and it'll figure out a desirable cleaning pattern for the area. The scheduled and automatic cleaning modes are self-explanatory.

During the first few instances that you operate this robot vacuum, it may try to get inside tight spaces. Most of the time, it'll get stuck. However, give it a chance to learn, and you'll see this model avoiding those tight areas in no time.

4.1/5

Things We Liked

  • It has several cleaning modes to satisfy
  • Sweeps, rolls, and sucks for efficient cleaning tasks
  • Edge, spot, and mini-room cleaning methods to clean floors from different rooms in the property

Things We Didn't Like

  • You cannot control this device with an app, but its remote is good enough for most of its cleaning operations

Let's get one thing out of the bat with the Pure Clean model PUCR96B. It has a very small dustbin and filter container. Hence, it can't suck up more dust, dirt, and debris in comparison with other robot vacuums on the market.

While it does have a small capacity, it makes up for this shortcoming with other excellent features. First, its accompanying remote control is great for use for different cleaning tasks. It even lets you schedule the activation of this remote vacuum cleaner.

Even though it has a glaring weakness, the Pure Clean PUCRC96B has a 4.1-star rating on Amazon. It even has a decent battery life of 1 and 1/2 hours before it automatically goes back to its charging base for a recharge.

As for its design, it comes with dual rotating side brushes found underneath the robot vacuum's outer shell. For the most part, these brushes work well in removing dust, dirt, and small debris in its cleaning path. These components even do a good job of cleaning the edges in rooms.

Also, and unlike other robot vacuums on this list, this model from Pure Clean is pet-friendly. It can remove and suck away pet hair without giving us too much of a problem. Furthermore, its 24-watt suction power can catch very fine particles in the area to the point that it can even clean allergens.

Hence, you may want to get this robot vacuum model if you suffer from allergic reactions from dust, dirt, and other similarly small particles.

4.1/5

Things We Liked

  • Almost completely hands-free cleaning operations
  • HEPA filter effectively blocks pet hair and other debris from entering the inner workings of the device
  • Removes allergens in the immediate area

Things We Didn't Like

  • It has a small dustbin capacity, but it's still large enough for cleaning small-to-medium-sized rooms

The Dr.fasting Robot Vacuum Cleaner or the Minsu Robotic Vacuum Cleaner (model DFMU1029) presents you with the advantage of cleaning hardwood floors and other similar surfaces without the need for human intervention. It sets itself apart from the market by offering eight different cleaning modes.

These cleaning modes patterns are Bow, Free, Spiral, Left-handed, Right-handed, Z, Edge, and Focus Cleaning. Even if you don't manually select the cleaning mode, this vacuum cleaner has an intelligent AI to switch between its different modes when needed. Many of its reviewers found its different cleaning modes to be a great aspect that they've awarded this unit with a 4-star rating on Amazon.

When it comes to performance, the Dr.fasting Vacuum Cleaner doesn't present challenges regarding large-sized particles. It can efficiently suck up small debris without the need for human assistance. The resign behind this characteristic is its large sweep mouth. This component comes with a smart chip to detect objects in its path.

After detection, this robot vacuum cleaner attempts to suck up dust, dirt, and small debris with little worry. It can even try its best (and succeeds most of the time) in removing stains from flat surfaces and carpets with light fabrics. Its built-in mop is even made with a high-quality fiber to ensure the longevity of use. We may even declare this model as the best robot vacuum and mop combo.

Speaking of longevity, the outer shell of this vacuum cleaner can last a good, long while. Its exterior is wear, corrosion, and scratch-resistant so you can use it for months, and it'll still look like it just came out of the box.

There's one glaring flaw in the Dr.fasting Robot Vacuum's design and its brushes. While these components do well in cleaning the area, pet hair can easily get tangled in its brushes. When this event happens, human intervention is a necessity. Hence, it may not be an ideal choice for pet owners, but every other user will get good to great results in using this model.

4.0/5

Things We Liked

  • Its outer shell is wear, corrosion, and scratch-resistant
  • Long battery life of 150 or 2 and 1/2 hours before it needs a recharge
  • It works well on several flat surfaces including hardwood and vinyl floors

Things We Didn't Like

  • Pet hair easily gets caught in the spindle, but there's a handy tool in the device that can help remove obstructions in its brushes to continue its operations.

The Pure Clean PUCRC660 offers features that separate itself from the rest of the market. First, it offers multi-room gyroscope navigation to map the entire layout of the home in its sensors. In comparison, several robot vacuum units on the market will only map out a particular room.

Its mapping feature is also efficient as it can return to its charging base with little trouble even after cleaning a different room. However, it doesn’t have a virtual wall feature which helps prevent other robot vacuums from entering rooms. Still, the absence of this functionality means this device can clean surfaces in different areas of the home.

You can also control the device with the help of the WeBack mobile app or Amazon Alexa. To take advantage of the app, just download it from the Google Play Store or iOS App Store. Its user interface is simple enough that you won't find it difficult to navigate through its various control options.

Another set of features that separate this robot vacuum from the rest of the crowd is its underbrush. Also known as a squeegee, this feature rolls under the unit during cleaning tasks to help the device suck up most dust, dirt, and debris in areas where it can clean. This underbrush is also responsible for drying wet surfaces.

Despite its list of great features, it has a short maximum running time. It will return to its charging dock in just over an hour of cleaning. Still, that time is decent enough for most cleaning operations before it attempts to clean the floor once more.

4.1/5

Things We Liked

  • Multi-room gyroscope mapping maps out the entire house instead of a single room
  • A wet mopping feature to make surfaces like hardwood floors dry
  • A large 600 ml dustbin capacity

Things We Didn't Like

  • It's noisier than many other robot vacuums on the market, but it's noise levels aren't as loud as a standard vacuum cleaner.

The iRobot Roomba 980 excels in maneuvering. Place it on hardwood floors or any other flat surface, and you'll see it try to clean the area before it returns to its dock. While that previous statement might make the device as common as the other models on the market, this unit requires very little interference from humans.

Many robot vacuums out there will constantly annoy owners with their beeps as they require assistance from getting back to the charging base to removing obstructions in their path. However, the Roomba 980 will keep on going even with obstructions in its way.

It will either move around debris that it can't suck up or go through it. If this device sees walls or other tall objects, it will gladly move around the high obstruction or turn back. This robot vacuum is one of the few models on the market that you can just leave it in a location until it goes back to its charging dock.

Owners of the iRobot Roomba 980 will also take advantage of the convenience of using a mobile app, Amazon Alexa, or Google Assistant for controls. However, it doesn't have a remote control which is a bit of a disappointment. Despite the lack of this accessory, controlling this robot vacuum is easy, and you won't bump into problems using it most of the time.

Perhaps the area where this robot vacuum lacks is its suction power. It's good, but not the best. This model can pick up most dust and dirt in an area, but it can have difficulties in sucking up small debris. Even small food crumbs might promote difficulties for the Roomba 980. Be prepared to do a light sweeping routine if there are small debris in an area where this robot vacuum cleaner.

4.2/5

Things We Liked

  • Different control options like a phone app, Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant
  • The existence of a carry handle
  • Rarely gets stuck

Things We Didn't Like

  • No remote control in the package

The Amarey A800 is a robot vacuum with a body coated in rubber. It's a surprising move when you look at several models on the market that have a more sturdy or rugged-looking exterior. However, this material allows its case to remain pristine even when it may sometimes bump into things during cleaning tasks.

This device also has spring-loaded wheels along with a caster to drive the main body across the floor. Underneath this small, automatic vacuum cleaner are two side-brushes that sweep debris to the center of the unit where the machine can suck (literally). There's also the main brush to help bring the dust and debris to the center of the device.

This robot vacuum may not be at the top of the market, but it comes with features that offer it a competitive edge to other models out there. For instance, it has an array of an excellently-working suite of sensors. It works like a charm as the robot doesn't fall down steps or bumps into curtains. It can also guide itself safely to its charging dock when battery power runs low.

Climbing ramps and small slopes are also no problem for the Amarey A800. However, it cannot climb steep angles, but that's a feat not doable by most robot vacuums on the market. We didn't mind when we experienced this shortcoming. Other like-minded folks were on the same page they've awarded this model with a 4.9-star rating on its Amazon page.

Perhaps one of the best features that come with this robot vacuum cleaner is its long battery life. While many robot vacuums can only cater to 1 and 1/2 hours of cleaning, this compact device can clean for two hours before it needs a recharge. We also took advantage of different edge patterns for cleaning operations for a thorough clean across numerous surfaces.

Last, cleaning and maintaining the A800 is a relatively simple task. It has a dust box outfitted with three filters and a steel mesh screen.  Remove these components and wash it under a tap every two to three days. You can also see a hidden washable foam pad that acts as a high-efficiency filter in which you can clean this part as well.

4.2/5

Things We Liked

  • Long battery life
  • Decent climbing ability
  • Excellent maneuverability

Things We Didn't Like

  • The rubber exterior isn't as durable as other sturdier materials, but it's good enough to prevent damage from occasional bumps.
